This is most likely an air and watertight steamer trunk due to the tin or zinc lined interior of the trunk. It is a solid piece of construction still; in keeping with its age and use of the years there is tarnish to the metal handles, and the lock no longer has its key, however the lining is still in great condition.
Made from Pine, stained and bound in metal, it had a reinforced base with wooden runner bars/feet. The metal bounding on the exterior shows the most age and may need work done to make sure it is safe with no sharp metal edges. But this piece could make a statement focal point to a room as coffee table and storage.
Due to the branding panel inside and the address denoting Bayswater W2, this time stamps the trunk from around 1917 after the postal service split London West into 2 areas.
Dimensions: H 38cm – W 93cm – D 49cm.
Condition: The piece does have age-related wear in keeping with its use over the years, this is mainly in the metal parts, handles and metal bound edges where the metal has come away from the wood and the edges can be sharp in areas and would need some attention. Photos have been taken of these areas.
