Movement community art project for Root 1066

HFS took part in a huge community art event, alongside 12 other local community groups, as part of the Root 1066 Festival in Hastings.

Participants took part in a procession along the seafront, carrying hand-made arrows and gathered at The Stade to celebrate the completion of a huge art installation made by vulnerable adults in Hastings and Rother. The installation was made of hundreds of arrows made by groups in Hastings and Rother. Each arrow was decorated underneath with the hopes and wishes of the participants.

pop-up bookshop needs a new home

Our team of bookshop volunteers is still searching for a new home for the project in Bexhill.

The pop-up bookshop reused thousands of books and encouraged people to read. The friendly volunteers also provided a welcoming place for people to pop in for a chat. People gave donations for their books which raised funds for our craft and DIY sessions at local Refuges.

Meanwhile, the shop they used was kept open, used and aired and the owner quickly found a commercial tenant.

The team is looking for an empty shop in Bexhill to continue the project – please get in touch if you’re able to help.

People have been really enjoying our Wellmaking Workshops – 6 sessions of creative fun, learning new skills and making friends.

Comments so far: “I think the workshops have really boosted my wellbeing. I feel much more confident and look forward to coming out to the workshop each week. I’m very proud of what I’ve made.”
