1988 Hastings Furniture Service volunteers at the base in Robert Tressell Workshops. Robert Tressell wrote the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, highlighting the problems of low incomes, poor housing and insecure employment in Hastings. HFS was set up to help people cope with these conditions.
