About HFS starter packs
HFS starter packs contain essential basic items to help households starting out or starting again with nothing. We provide items such as saucepans, cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery, towels and cleaning items.
The packs mean that people can cook, clean and bathe themselves and their children once they are housed. We work with organisations like Refuge, Seaview, HARC and Housing departments to make sure the packs reach people in need.
HFS bulk buys the items for the packs to keep costs down. The average cost per household is £65.
The service works alongside other efforts like local food banks and DESSS (essential furniture and appliances) to help people get back on their feet after crises such as homelessness, abuse, institutionalization, and home fires.
Mark Thomas has supported HFS for over 10 years.
Here are some of the highlights, including our last DLWP fund-raiser which starred Mark Steel, Josie Long, James Acaster, Tiff Stevenson, Nat Tapley and Ivor Dembina.
