HFS workshops in Hastings and Bexhill are a great place to learn practical skills in a fun, friendly environment. We work with small, supportive groups of adults.
We are offering free or low-cost workshops for adults in:

- Upholstery for Beginners
- Decorating Skills
All courses are 20 hours, over either 4 or 6 days, and usually run on the same day each week.
Furniture restoration Bexhill and Hastings
Learn how to use tools safely, sand down, repair and restore a small piece of furniture from our store to take home. Ask our experts all your furniture fixing questions!
Learn how to use tools safely and make some items from scratch from reused bed-slats. Never used a saw before? Book our Beginners course, then move on to the Advanced course to make more complex joints. If you have a carpentry project idea in mind, get it done with advice from our expert Ron!
Paint effects Hastings
Learn a range of paint effects: rag-rolling, shabby chic, distressing, sponging and crackling. Transform a small piece of furniture from our store to take home.
Upholstery for Beginners Hastings
Learn how to recover dining chairs. Bring a set from home you want to cover (and your choice of fabric), or cover a set from our store with our material to learn the techniques.
Mixed Crafts Hastings
Have fun with a range of craft activities such as; revamping a lampshade, paper flowers, driftwood mobiles, decoupage boxes, painted flower pots, t-light glasses. Something to take home each week.
In November-December we are also running Crafty Christmas – a seasonal take on Mixed Crafts. Make your own decorations, cards and gift bags from upcycled and low cost materials.
Decorating Skills Bexhill
Pick up the skills and tips to get a perfect finish when you decorate a room. Choosing the right tools for the job, preparing walls and surfaces for decoration including painting and wallpapering. Learn how to hang paper, match patterns, trim edges, and work around objects like sockets and light switches.
